Editorial policy

This page explains how Fitsource decides what to show you, and where money enters the picture. It is written to be checked against, so if we ever fall short of it, tell us.

How pieces are identified

An uploaded photo is read by a vision model that describes each garment, shoe, bag and accessory it can see clearly: type, colour, material, cut and distinctive details. Anything it can't make out with reasonable confidence is left out rather than guessed. Brands are only named when they're legible in the photo.

How results are ranked

Each description becomes a shopping search. Results are scored on how closely their title matches the description — colour, garment type, material, details — plus a small weight for retailer ratings. Items for children or costumes are pushed down. The best-scoring results are then split into budget, mid and premium bands by price, and the pick nearest the original piece's apparent quality is highlighted.

The closest match always leads. Between two results of equal quality, we prefer a retailer whose link can earn us a commission. A commission never lets a worse match outrank a better one, and it never removes a better match from the list.

Commissions

Some links to retailers pass through affiliate networks and earn Fitsource a percentage of what you spend. The price you pay is unchanged. Links that may earn a commission are marked rel="sponsored" in the page source, and every page carries a disclosure in the footer. We never accept payment from a brand to appear in, or rank higher in, picks.

Advertising

Three spaces — two desktop rails and one mobile inline — are sold per week by open auction. They are labelled "Sponsored", sit apart from results, and have no effect on results. We decline creatives that are misleading, that imitate our own results, or that don't fit the site.

Looks

Looks are written by a person. The picks under each look come from the same ranking as any scan. Photos are ours or licensed; product images belong to the retailers that list them. We don't publish other people's photos from social media.

Accuracy

Prices and availability come from retailers at the moment of the search and change constantly. Treat them as a starting point, not a quote. We correct misidentifications and broken links when told; corrections are made in place.

Your photo

The photo you upload is held in memory, sent once to the vision provider, and discarded. We keep a fingerprint so the same file isn't processed twice; it cannot be turned back into the image. See privacy.
